Description
Bird Nest 1 by Jo Ann Tomaselli
It's always sad when something goes amiss in nature. When my sister presented me with this birds nest that had fallen out of a tree in her yard with an intact, perfectly formed blue egg, I was a little distraught. And then I thought to photograph this beautiful piece of architecture!
A bird builds its nest with sticks and other materials woven into an object of amazing complexity. Once the eggs are laid in the spring, the incubation time varies from species to species but it generally takes most songbirds two weeks to incubate their young and another two weeks before the young are ready to leave the nest. The bird-nest in this image fell from its original location. I brought it into my studio, placed it against a white background and photographed this still-life.
