Drift Logs Tossed Like Pick-Up Sticks Upon Pacific Coast Beach

There is something inherently beautiful in decay especially when it is evident in a natural setting. Traveling along the Pacific Northwest coastal route I came across this ocean landscape of driftlogs, many the size of two story homes, scattered over the sand beach.
The trees of the temperate rainforest in this region, Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir and Sitka Spruce, follow a natural ecological cycle. Reaching old age & amazing heights, and subject to soil erosion and brutal storms, they fall to the shoreline to be carried off into the ocean with the tide.
These big, brown, beautiful logs, too large to be classified as driftwood, form natural patterns of amazing detail especially when viewed from above. Although the weathered white wood environment looks inviting, it is certainly not somewhere you want to be at the change of tides!
