Very nice. I liked this building too, but it is actually not across the water (Yamuna River) but on the same side just outside the walls of the Taj Mahal. I viewed it from across the river at Methab Bagh gardens.

Jo Ann Tomaselli replied:

Ah, yes Inge - it is on the same side of the Taj and now I'm wondering what body of water divides the two structures. Anyone have any idea?

Outstanding capture of subtle, evocative tones. By avoiding what might be another artist's urge to over-process such an image, you have drawn us into the mystery of mist and shadow. f/v/w

Artist's Description

Looking Back From The Taj Mahal by Jo Ann Tomaselli

It's said that the 2 best times to visit the Taj Mahal are at sunrise and the evening of the full moon. My visit to Agra in Uttar Pradesh, India did not support the full moon, so I chose to arrive pre-dawn to soak up the wonder of this historic marble mausoleum.

Everyone knows of this UNESCO World Heritage Site and how the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built it in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The structure is truly impressive, one not to be missed if you have the chance to visit, but what also impressed me were the gardens and other buildings surrounding the Taj, such as this one across the water from the mausoleum.

In the predawn light there was a haze hanging in the air from night time fires that burn throughout the region. The benefit to this photograph is that the haze adds the look and feel of an old painting.
