To catch the sunrise in the Blue Ridge Mountains in western North Carolina, one has to get up early and start the journey in the dark. Setting up the camera and tripod becomes and art in and of itself as you can't see what there might be to focus on. And then the outdoor sunrise waiting game begins.
As dawn breaks, the ridges start to take shape in the pale morning light and as the sun skirts the horizon casting a gentle yellow light on the Appalachian Mountains, abstract shapes start to emerge. The higher the sun asends, the more intense the golden colors become.
