Description
Black and White Neon Cross At The Billy Graham Library by Jo Ann Tomaselli
This image was taken at the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina. This library is a memorial to this mans great legacy and the influence he had on so many people from all walks of life. An American Christian evangelist, ordained as a minister, who rose to celebrity status in 1949, his sermons were broadcast on radio and television.
Graham was a spiritual adviser to several United States Presidents. During the civil rights movement, he began to support integrated seating for his revivals and crusades and in 1957 he invited the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.to preach jointly at a revival in New York City at Madison Square Garden.
Every December, the library offers free admission to the public. The last stop on the tour is the chapel and on my way out, I turned and saw this amazing neon cross. I can't remember if there was only one cross and it was reflected in the numerous glass panels surrounding the exit or if it was a series of neon crosses. The original color image was neon pink; I felt that converting it to black and white made for a more powerful image.
The cross was used as a symbol for communication and art and it has also been used by religions prior to Christianity and Jesus. In addition to being used in Buddhist scripture and to represent the Hindu god Vishnu, it was used by ancient religions in Babylonia to worship the god Tammuz.

Congratulations on your recent sale of an amazing work....“When you want to make the main color pure and bright, don’t just keep adding bright colors on it. Just make the colors around the spot darker and dull. It will give the scene dramatical...

Wow, this is wild and neat...great use of black and white to enhance the strong repeating pattern!

This is such a great image on many levels. I like the light and receding lines and I love the subject. Well done.
